Azimuth drive complete. Azimuth encoder is belt driven on custom pulleys to maintain a low profile. Altitude drive complete. Protective enclosures for drives have a .062" aluminum back panel, a .125" rolled ring, and a plexiglass cover.
Altitude encoder is mounted in a protective box on the eyepiece side of the scope. Altitude shaft is solidly fastened to adjustable plates on the sides of the mirror box. Shafts turn in ball bearings mounted and concealed in the rocker frame tubing.
The telescope is driven by a CAAD stepper driver and a 7 amp hour battery. The battery will drive the scope for about 1-1/2 nights in cold temperatures.
