Sensitive Drill Table

I've had this little project on my list for ages and finally got around to building it. It's from the July/August 1982 issue of The Home Shop Machinist, titled "Sensitive Drilling Attachment" by R. S. Hedin. I don't do a lot of drilling with tiny drills, but when I need too, I've now got a nice way to accomplish the task with less chance of broken drills. Just a few minor changes to the design based on materials at hand. My base is 2-1/2" square and the column is 5/8"T x 1-1/2"W. Since I had a little more material thickness, I used 1/2" drill rod for the table post. My shoulder screw was 3/16" and slightly longer, so I compensated as needed. The little table is smooth as silk and should provide a great feel of the drills cutting action.
