Clamp Style Knurling ToolMy old push style knurling tool always left something to be desired in knurl quality and puts lots of pressure on lathe bearings. I searched the web and found a solid design by Bill Darby for a clamp style tool at http://www.metalwebnews.com/howto/knurl/knurl.html. I also noted and liked some ideas from Rudy Kouhoupt's balanced knurling tool in the January-February 2001 issue of The Home Shop Machinist magazine. I combined the two designs, but most of it is from Bill Darby's web drawing. I made a tool post mount to match the KRF tool post I made several years ago. Now it's really convenient to just slip the new knurler in place and start making knurls. Why did I wait so long to do this project? |
