Milling Machine Tool Storage
I built tool storage drawers under the chip pan on each side of my
milling machine stand and a center drawer in the stand. The left drawer stores all
my clamping and hold-down parts and the right drawer has all my end mills. The center
drawer in the cabinet provides storage for collets, mill arbors and chucks, and wrenches.
I used the mill to "machine" all the recesses and coordinate drill the holes. I sealed
the wood with clear polyurathane finish to prevent moisture buildup and subsequent
rusting of tools and cutter shanks. So far no rust in the first year of use. Sure is
nice to have all the everyday cutters and clamps right where you need them. There is
still ample shelf space in the cabinet for the larger heavy items such as spin indexer,
right angle plate, indexing table, tilt table, and vise.
