Small Tool Storage

I was paging through some of my collection of Projects in Metal magazine and spotted a Tool Tower project by Ed Dubosky in the Oct/Nov 1992 issue. It looked like just about the thing I needed to store the bunches of small tools that I regularly use at the work bench or would otherwise want quick access to.

A few modifications to his slick design idea and I had my very own version for much needed easy access storage of punches, small screwdrivers, taper reamers and the like. I wanted to hang my tower on the wall and have it take up as little depth as possible, so I sawed the 2x4s at about a 30 degree angle and fastened each one to a thin 1/4" plywood back. I added a shelf at the bottom made of clear plexiglass to store my set of small screwdrivers and provide a long shelf behind for the long screwdrivers. A small shelf at the top made a nice place for the tap handles and tap guide block along with space for a razor saw miter box. It's proven to be very handy storage with everything in easy reach and plain site. Makes putting things back where they belong much easier too.

Small tools organized and in easy reach at the back of the workbench.
